Comment:
Enterocytozoon bieneusi sporont - EM. This parasite causes intestinal microsporidiosis in patients with AIDS resulting in intractable diarrhoea. Within the host cell, it undergoes binary fission (merogony), multiple fission (schizogony) and spore production (sporogony). This sporont is within the intestinal cell; they will result in sporoblasts that will develop thick spore walls becoming spores (1.5x0.9 microns) that are passed in the faeces. Tissue examination using EM is considered the best diagnostic method for determining infections in tissues.
